Ten people on board the boat were taken into custody by the Gujarat Coast Guard and shifted to Porbandar for questioning, Gujarat Defense officials said on Twitter. Two tonnes of fish and 600 liters of fuel were seized from the boat. While the Gujarat coast is close to Pakistan, drug cartels try to use it as a means of transportation. But those efforts have been thwarted by Indian authorities.
On December 20, 77 kg of heroin worth Rs 400 crore was seized from a Pakistani fishing boat during a joint operation by the Indian Coast Guard and anti-terrorism inspection team off the coast of Gujarat. Even before that, the Coast Guard and anti-terrorist squads often carried out similar operations and seized drugs. In April, 30 kg of heroin worth Rs 150 crore was seized off the coast of Jakhou in Kutch. In November, the anti-terrorist squad seized drugs worth Rs 600 crore in Gujarat’s Morbi district. Also in September, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 3,000 kg of drugs worth Rs 21,000 crore at the Mundra port in Kutch.
