The Bahraini national team has come a long way to reach the semi-finals of the 26th Gulf Championship held in Kuwait, following the well-deserved victory it achieved over its Saudi counterpart 3-2, for the second group of the tournament, this Sunday evening.
With this victory, the Bahraini Red Team topped the group by goal difference over the Iraqi team, which in turn beat Yemen with an unanswered goal, while the Saudi team ranked third, and the Yemeni team sat in last place.
Bahrain advanced through Mahdi Abdul-Jabbar, who took advantage of Mahdi Al-Humaidan’s corner and headed it into the goal, without being monitored by the Saudi defense (19).
Mahdi Al-Humaidan increased Al-Ahmar’s lead when he added the second goal after a cross ball sent from the right side prepared for him by the Saudi defender, Ali Lagami, and he succeeded in scoring from it “38”.
In the second half, Musab Al-Jawir was able to reduce the difference in favor of Al-Akhdar with a ball he received on the edge of the box, and deposited it into the goal (73).
But the Saudi team was not very happy with the goal, as Mohammed Jassim was able to widen the gap again in favor of the Bahrain team, after a ball he dropped over goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi (76).
Al-Akhdar won a penalty kick, which Saleh Al-Shehri was able to translate into the “86” goal, so the match ended with Bahrain winning 3-2.
