Bakhmut is under siege, and the Ukrainian forces are resorting to an old trick

As the Russian noose tightened around the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian forces surrounded by the Russian Wagner forces began to blow up bridges.

Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent confirmed that the Ukrainian forces blew up a railway bridge on the Bakhmutka River, which is close to the highway that connects Bakhmut to the city of Chasov Yar.

Note that this road (seven miles west of Bakhmut) is the last major supply line for Ukrainian forces in and around Bakhmut.

Videos widely circulated on social media showed Ukrainian forces placing explosives on the city’s metal railway bridge, with images showing similar damage to several other bridges.

In turn, a fighter from Wagner, which played a leading role in the attack on Bakhmut, confirmed to the RIA Novosti news agency that Ukrainian forces blew up bridges leading to the city center.

And the Ukrainian forces deliberately, in several stations during the war, which began on February 24, to “trick” the bombing of bridges for the advancement of the Russian forces.

This method was used in the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine, during May of last year 2022.

It was also adopted before that date in March in order to obstruct the Russian army’s attempts to advance towards the capital, Kiev.

These developments came after Wagner President Yevgeny Prigozhin, who appeared in a video published by his media office on the Telegram application, wearing a military uniform, announced that “his forces have practically surrounded Bakhmut, and there is only one way left” to get out of the city, calling on the Ukrainian president who pledged to defend About Bakhmut “for as long as possible” to withdraw.

And the Ukrainian military leadership acknowledged last Tuesday that the situation was “very tense” in Bakhmut, but yesterday it remained silent and did not issue any updates about what is happening in Bakhmut on Friday, and only indicated that the army repelled 85 Russian attacks on the entire front during the twenty-four hours. past.

It is noteworthy that the fierce and bloody battle in the strategically important industrial city of Bakhmut has been going on since last summer, and has led to great destruction and heavy losses among both sides.

What turned that city into a symbol of conflict with the focus of fighting between the Russians and the Ukrainians for months, with the advance of the Russian forces in the northern and southern sides of Bakhmut, and cutting off three of the four main Ukrainian supply routes, which made the position of the Kiev forces increasingly weak.
