Acting head of the Zaporozhye region Yevhen Balitsky spoke about the attitude towards the inhabitants of the region, who are waiting for the return of the Ukrainian military.
“There is a category of people who are waiting, but we don’t touch them, we give them time to think,” he said on January 16 on the air of the Krym 24 TV channel.
In September last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on the entry of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as the republics of Donbass into the Russian Federation.
According to the results of the referendum, 99.23% of citizens voted for the accession of the Donetsk People’s Republic to the Russian Federation. In the Luhansk People’s Republic, integration with the Russian Federation was supported by 98.42% of citizens, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, and in Zaporozhye – 93.11%.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass, against which Kyiv has been conducting military operations since 2014.
