Quetta. At least 25 people were killed and more than 40 injured in two separate blasts targeting election candidates in Balochistan province on Wednesday, just a day before general elections in Pakistan.
In the first attack, at least 15 people lost their lives and more than 30 were injured in a blast outside the office of an independent candidate in Pishin, Balochistan, while the second blast took place at Jamiat Ulema in Qila Saifullah district, Geo News reported. It happened outside Islam Fazal (JUI-F) office. At least 12 people were killed and more than 30 others injured in a blast outside an independent candidate’s party office in Pishin, Balochistan, Geo News reported.
The blast took place outside the political office of independent candidate Asfand Yar Khan Kakar in Khanozai area of Pishin. Kakar is contesting from NA-265 constituency and Balochistan Assembly constituencies PB-47 and PB-48. MS Habib of the hospital told Geo News that the injured have been admitted to Tehsil Hospital Khanojai, while the bodies have also been sent.
Habib said that the condition of most of the injured was critical. After the blast, emergency has been imposed in all the hospitals of Quetta and additional staff have also been called. He said operation theaters at Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital, BMC, Benazir and Sheikh Zayed Hospital are ready with staff to treat the injured.
The independent candidate was not present inside his office when the PP-47 blast took place in Pishin. According to Geo News report, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken cognizance of the blast and sought a report from the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Balochistan.
An ECP spokesperson said instructions have been issued to take action against those involved in such incidents. Speaking to Geo News, Kakkar said that the blast took place on a motorcycle outside his election office.
