Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored a century in 60 balls in the 2nd ODI match played by Bangladesh against Ireland. With this, he achieved the fastest ODI century record on behalf of the Bangladesh team. However, due to rain, the match did not continue and ended without a win for either side.
In this match held in Sylhet, Bangladesh scored 349 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs. This is the highest runs scored by Bangladesh team in ODI cricket. In the first ODI match against Ireland, Bangladesh scored 338 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Now it broke it and created a new record.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a quick single off the last ball of the last over to break Shakib Al Hasan’s 63-ball century and set a new record. Shakib Al Hasan scored the fastest century against Zimbabwe in 2009.
Mushfiqur Rahim also crossed the milestone of 7,000 runs in this innings. 14 fours and 2 sixes helped him score 100 runs off 60 balls. Of the two sixes, one was hit over deep point and the other over long off. The special thing about this innings is that Mushfiqur Rahim came out to bat in the 34th over. This is the first fastest century by a Bangladeshi player in this over.
Earlier, Najmul Shando and Liton Das scored impressive fifties of 73 and 70 runs respectively. Mushfiqur Rahim and Dawhid Hridhai (49) combined for 128 off 78 balls. It became the fastest century partnership in Bangladesh’s ODI history.
Mushfiqur Rahim was only on 78 runs in the 47th over when Hridhai was out. He hit two boundaries in the 48th and 49th overs. Then in the last over, Mushfiqur Rahim needed 9 runs from the last 4 balls to complete his century. He took that too and set the fastest century record. Mushfiqur’s contribution was more in scoring 108 runs in the last 10 overs.
Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim had scored a century in 69 balls. It is worth noting that it was scored last year in 2015 against a strong Pakistan bowling.
After Bangladesh scored 349 runs, the match was abandoned due to rain. Mushfiqur Rahim’s century record without a win or loss in the match was also lost.
