The former president of the United States, Barack Obama, established a position in favor of the workers of the United Auto Workers (UAW)in their historic strike against the assembly companies General Motors, Ford and Stellantis.
The former president wrote on his X account a message in which he called on the shipowners to resolve the labor dispute:
“Fourteen years ago, when the Big Three automakers were struggling to stay afloat, my administration and the American people stepped in to support them. They did the same UAW auto workers, who sacrificed wages and benefits to help businesses recover.”
Obama also asked shipowners to be more generous: “Now that our automakers enjoy solid profitsit is time to do right by those same workers so that the industry can emerge more united and competitive than ever.”
The UAW union went on strike against General Motors, Ford and Stellantis on Friday, with the first time in its history that it acts simultaneously against the three unionized automakers in the United States.
The strike occurred after the union made demands regarding wages, benefits and labor protection for its members, including, an increase in income of 36% in four years.
The union is trying to regain benefits it lost during Barack Obama’s administration, when auto companies were in trouble. due to cash shortages and on the brink of bankruptcy.
