New Delhi: According to the Punjab Police, today (April 17), an army soldier from the same camp has been arrested in connection with the recent shooting incident in Bathinda army camp in the state of Punjab in which 4 soldiers were killed.
Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Kulneet Singh Khurana said that the arrested player has been identified as Desai Mohan and said that due to personal harassment he had shot four fellow players. But he refused to say what kind of harassment Desai Mohan was subjected to. More information on the case may be revealed during a police press conference. Desai Mohan will be produced in Bathinda court today and remanded in custody for questioning.
4 soldiers shot dead: On April 12, 4 people were killed in the firing incident at Bathinda army camp in Punjab. In a statement released by the South West Command of the Indian Army, “An attack took place at 4.35 am on Wednesday morning at Bathinda Army Camp in Punjab. 4 people were killed.”
Commenting on the incident, a police officer said, “The soldiers were sleeping at 2 am. The accused confirmed that they were asleep at 3 am. Then he shot dead his fellow soldiers with a recently stolen gun.”
A case has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act against two unidentified persons at the Bathinda Cantonment Police Station in connection with the incident. In this case, Mohan Desai, a teammate who was involved in the attack, has been arrested.
Eyewitness Desai: According to the first information report of the case, Desai Mohan, who is currently accused and arrested, is the only eyewitness to the incident. In connection with this case, 4 players, including Mohan, were summoned and questioned on Sunday. Earlier, Desai Mohan had said, “Two men wearing kurta pajama and covering their faces were seen near the officers’ mess near the incident site.
