The Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) are trying to resist the offensive of the RF Armed Forces on Vuhledar. This was announced on Friday, January 27, by Alexander Khodakovsky, commander of the Vostok battalion of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
He stressed that in the morning the Ukrainian military launched a strike from a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) HIMARS in the village of Stepnoe, believing that there is a large control center of Russian forces.
“So far, the enemy’s tactics are based on cutting off our advanced groups that have penetrated into his defenses as deeply as possible with artillery fire with periodic counterattacks,” Khodakovsky wrote in his Telegram channel.
At the same time, according to the battalion commander, the Ukrainian counterattacks are not of an intensive nature – the enemy will try in small groups to recapture any of the positions occupied by the Russian Armed Forces.
Earlier that day, adviser to the acting head of the DPR, Yan Gagin, said that the Russian military was clearing nationalist suburban areas on the southern outskirts of Vugledar.
On the same day, the acting head of the republic, Denis Pushilin, said that taking control of this settlement would provide Russian troops with access to the Red Army and Kurakhov directions. According to Pushilin, this could radically change the balance of power at the front.
A day earlier, Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the acting head of the DPR, said that Russian forces had entrenched themselves on the outskirts of Vugledar and were continuing to fight the Ukrainian Armed Forces there.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
