Chicago – R. Kelly’s former victims who appeared in the documentary “Surviving R. Kelly” have been awarded compensation of 10 million euros. Because they were threatened by Kelly and his manager. This is reported by the news portal “TMZ”.
Singer R. Kelly (real name Robert Kelly, 56) was sentenced to 30 years in prison in June 2022 for molesting minors. And he’s currently serving it at the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the singer’s six victims will receive a total of €9.7 million from Kelly and his former manager Donnell Russell. The women had sued Kelly and Russell for trying to stop a New York screening of “Surviving” in December 2018.
The “I Believe I Can Fly” hitmaker reportedly tried to intimidate the women and producers back in May 2018. When that failed, including legal threats, Kelly’s allies reportedly called producers the night of the New York screening and said someone was going to “shoot everyone at the location.”
The event was canceled because of the threat of a mass shooting. The victims report that this has stirred up a past trauma in the women, leading them to now suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and panic attacks.
Each of the six women should now receive between 1 and 2.3 million euros. Whether they actually get the money is unclear. While R. Kelly’s music continues to generate revenue, a large portion of the royalties are already being used to pay compensation to victims of sex crimes.
