Punjab: Footage of the escape of Sikh priest Amritpal Singh, who was campaigning in favor of establishing a separate country for Sikhs in the name of Khalistan, has been released.
For the past four days, the Punjab police have been actively searching for him, who is absconding, and the footage of his escape has come to light. Video footage of him fleeing in a Maruti car from a toll booth in Jalandhar at 11.27 am on Saturday morning when the Punjab Police launched an operation to arrest him.
Earlier, he went for a Mercedes SUV and later switched to the Maruti car. After this, he leaves the car and escapes on a bike. He escaped by changing his clothes while switching from one car to another and to a bike. The Punjab Police has released photographs of the priest Amritpal Singh in various guises as he escaped in a marten suit instead of his usual attire. The police have also seized the Maruti car that helped him escape earlier.
Background of the Case: A search conducted at the office of Amritpal Singh, president of Waris Punjab D, resulted in the confiscation of bullet proof coats and guns. AKF is engraved on them. Police suspect that Amrit Pal may have formed a terrorist outfit named Anandpur Khalsa Fauj and may have branded it as AKF to denote it.
Subsequently, a new case has been registered against Amritpal Singh and others under sections including arms hoarding. Amritpal Singh has been declared the first accused in this case.
In addition, the police said that Amritpal Singh may have been supported by Pakistan’s spy agency ISI and may have received help from that agency.
While 6 cases are pending against Amritpal Singh and others, the police are actively searching for him who has absconded. After the police department started taking action against Amritpal Singh, the central government’s task force has been mobilized along with the police department to maintain law and order in the state.
