US President Joe Biden met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Wednesday, July 5. This was reported by the press service of the White House.
Both politicians expressed their commitment to provide further support to Ukraine. In addition, they discussed coordinating transatlantic efforts with respect to the People’s Republic of China.
The American leader praised Sweden’s role in ensuring regional security and added that he fully supports the country’s early accession to NATO.
Biden and Kristersson touched on the topic of combating climate change, and also committed to supporting the “deployment of a secure telecommunications infrastructure” and deepening joint research in advanced 6G technologies.
Earlier, on July 5, it became known that the US President would like to see the current President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen as NATO Secretary General, with whom Biden established strong ties, strengthening “contacts on China, Ukraine and climate issues.”
At the same time, the North Atlantic Alliance confirmed the decision to create a Ukraine-NATO council. The first meeting of the council will be held at the summit in Vilnius on July 12 at the level of heads of state with the participation of Sweden.
