Patna. Patna High Court has given a big relief to Bihar’s strongman leader and former MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh, in the AK-47 case. The High Court has acquitted him on the basis of evidence. Earlier, the lower court had sentenced him in this case. This decision has cleared the way for him to come out of jail.
Justice Chandrashekhar Jha’s bench of Patna High Court had reserved the order after hearing the arguments of both the parties. Lack of evidence was found in a section 47 case against Anant Singh. Today this reserved order i.e. the verdict was pronounced. A case was going on against Anant Singh under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, in which a Patna court had sentenced him to 10 years in jail.
He was granted parole for 15 days last month. Anant Singh has been an MLA from Mokama for four consecutive terms but was disqualified after being convicted. Bihar’s strongman leader Anant Singh was sentenced to 10 years in the AK-47 case. This sentence ended his membership of the Legislative Assembly. The MP MLA court of Patna sentenced both Anant Singh and Sunil Ram to 10 years each.
This case is of the year 2019, when AK-47 rifle, grenade and cartridges were recovered from Anant Singh’s house. In this case, the police had registered a case against Anant Singh and one of his close associates Sunil Ram under the Arms Act. At that time, 13 witnesses were presented in the court in this case. Statements of 34 witnesses were recorded on behalf of the defense. After hearing all the parties and examining the evidence, the court had pronounced the verdict holding Anant Singh guilty.
