Bisleri will now be led by Jayanthi Chauhan

Bisleri is one of the most trusted and trusted mineral water brands in India. Last week came the news of Tata Group taking over Bisleri. But Tata has now announced that it has withdrawn from this acquisition. Jayanthi Chauhan, daughter of Bisleri International Chairman Ramesh Chauhan, will now head Bisleri after Tata Consumer Products Limited (TCPL) pulled out of the process to take over Bisleri. “Jayanti will lead the company along with Bisleri’s skilled team and we do not want to sell the business. In the business founded and promoted by her father, 42-year-old Jayanti Chauhan is currently the vice chair.” Chairman of Bisleri Ramesh Chauhan clarified.

Jayanthi Chauhan, 38, is the only daughter of Ramesh Chauhan and is currently the vice chairperson of the company. Last November, Bisleri International was in talks to sell a majority stake in the company to Tata Consumer Products (TCPL) for Rs 6,000-7,000 crore. It said the deal would be completed in the next 7-8 months. Last week, however, TCPL said that the talks had ended and that “no definitive agreement or commitment has been entered into on this matter”.

Jayanthi has been involved in the company’s business for years. Lately, she has been working on developing Bisleri’s Vedika brand. Jayanthi is a trained fashion designer and photographer from London. They handle various areas like digital marketing, advertising, communication development etc. Also, Jayanthi Chauhan is a traveler, photographer and animal lover.

Bisleri was originally an Italian company founded by Felice Bisleri. Bisleri started operations in Mumbai in 1965 with its packaged drinking water brand. Four years later, Ramesh Chauhan and his brothers acquired the firm for Rs 4 lakh.

Currently, Bisleri has more than 122 operational plants and 4,500 distributors across India and neighboring countries. Bisleri is likely to post sales of Rs 2,500 crore and a net profit of over Rs 200 crore in FY 2022-23. TCPL’s revenue from operations in the financial year 2021-22 was Rs 12,425 crore. Had the deal gone through, TCPL would have become the largest FMCG company in India. The acquisition of Hindustan Unilever Horlicks from GSK for Rs 3,045 crore in April 2020 is currently the biggest deal in the sector.

Apart from spring water Vedika and Bisleri, the company is also active in fizzy drinks and brands like Spicy, Fonzo, Limonata and Pina Colada. Ramesh Chauhan also created super brands like ThumbsUp, Masa, Limka, Gold Spot, which were acquired by Coca-Cola. Bisleri sells products through its own e-commerce platform and through other online retailers. Bisleri has a market share of 32% in the packaged drinking water segment. Bisleri mainly competes with PepsiCo’s Aquafina, The Coca-Cola Company’s Kinley and Parle Agro’s Bailey’s in this segment.
