Mavelikkara: The Mavelikara Additional District Sessions Court has sentenced 15 people from the Popular Front of India to death in the case of the assassination of a BJP leader in Alappuzha, Kerala in 2021.
Ranjith Srinivasan was the state secretary of the OBC wing of the Kerala BJP. Even a lawyer. In this case, on December 19, 2021, he was murdered in his house in Wellakinaru area of Alappuzha. The murder took place in front of his mother, wife and daughter.
Mavelikkara Additional District Sessions First Court Judge VG Sridevi, who heard the case, said that it was a rare case and sentenced all 15 to death. Naizam, Ajmal, Anoop, Mohammad Aslam, Abdul Kalam alias Salman, Abdul Kalam, Safarudin, Manshad, Jaseeb Raja, Nawaz, Sameer, Naseer, Zakir, Hussain, Shaji and Shreenas Ashraf have been sentenced to death. All of them belong to different parts of Alappuzha. Known to be associated with the banned Popular Front of India. They are also known to be associated with its political arm, the STPI. In this case, Ranjith Srinivasan’s family has welcomed the verdict.
An earlier police investigation into Ranjith’s murder revealed that the killing was in retaliation for the killing of STBI State Secretary KS Shan. Shaun was murdered by RSS supporters. Shan was killed to avenge the murder of RSS leader Nandukrishna, who was murdered in Alappuzha in February 2021. Srinivasan Ranjith was killed in retaliation for Shaun’s murder. 15 people have been sentenced to death in the murder case which has created a stir.
