Phulpur. Counting of votes is going on today in Phulpur assembly by-election. Complete security arrangements have been made for counting of votes. During the counting of Phulpur by-election, there was a fierce clash between BJP and SP workers in Mundera Mandi. The situation descended into violence.
SP workers also had an altercation with BJP candidate Deepak Patel. Chairs were thrown at each other. Due to tremendous uproar at the counting venue, counting remained halted for half an hour. During this period heavy force remained deployed. There is information about a scuffle between BSP agent Anup Singh and BJP candidate Deepak Patel. It is being told that apart from BJP and BSP, agents of SP were also involved in the fight.
The dispute was regarding hooting. This caused an uproar. The workers started throwing chairs at each other. Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba reached the spot. The CRPF personnel present at the spot used mild force. Deepak’s brother’s finger got injured due to his stick.
During this period the counting of votes remained halted for 16 minutes. Counting came to a standstill from 12:16 to 12:28. According to the District Election Officer, those involved in assault are being identified through CCTV. Strict action will be taken against them. On the other hand, BSP candidate of Phulpur assembly by-election Jitendra Kumar Singh said that BJP is exercising dictatorship in the elections. The ruling power is being misused. I was detained for half an hour.
