BMW unveiled the iX Flow concept car at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Los Angeles. This was reported by the press service of the brand on January 10.
The main feature of the model is the ability to completely or partially change its color in a matter of seconds. The car body is initially painted with light enamel, and a special thin film is glued on top.
“The smooth color change of the body is made possible by a special coating that accurately follows the shape and contours of the body. The E Ink technology is based on the electrophoretic process. Pigments of various colors are brought to the surface of the coating using an electric current, as a result of which the body acquires the desired shade, ”the message says.
It is noted that E Ink technology is extremely energy efficient. No energy is required to maintain the selected body color: the electric current is supplied only during a short phase of shade change.
On October 21, it was reported that over the next 10 years, the BMW concern plans to produce a total of about 10 million electric vehicles.
Until 2025, the concern plans to consistently increase sales of electric vehicles by more than 50% per year and ultimately achieve tenfold growth compared to 2020. In 2030, at least half of BMW vehicles sold are expected to be fully electric.
