As part of the Sankranthi celebrations, bonfires lit in the school claimed the lives of the students. Three children are being treated in the hospital with burn injuries. The incident took place on Wednesday (January 11) evening at private school ‘Wisdom’ in Gollavilli under Amalapuram of Ambedkar Konaseema district. Bonfires were lit in the school premises as part of the Sankranti celebrations. While all the students gathered around the fire and cheered, it seems that the staff sprinkled petrol on the fire. All of a sudden the fire broke out and spread to three students. Seeing the children struggling with burn injuries, the parents are crying, bringing tears to the eyes.
In this incident, two girls of second and third class and a boy of UKG were injured. They were taken to the hospital in Amalapuram and treated. After getting information about the accident, Minister Pinipe Vishwarup, MP Anuradha, District Collector went to the hospital and visited the children and their parents. Later they were taken to Kim’s Hospital for better treatment.
Doctors said that two students were injured in the abdomen and legs. He said that there is no danger to life. He said that as it is winter, parents should take care of the injuries until they heal and it takes time for the injuries to heal.
Muggle competitions and other competitions are usually organized in schools during Sankranti. Officials do not give permission for events like bonfires. The MEO said that school director Rambabu said that this is the first time bonfires are lit during Sankranti celebrations in Wisdom School as well. He disclosed that he is bearing the expenses of the injured children.
