The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cycling Federation, Mansour Bouassiba, confirmed his intention to officially run for a new electoral session for the Board of Directors of the Cycling Federation, during the period from 2024-2028.
The Cycling Federation recently concluded its participation in the first Gulf Youth Games, winning six colorful medals.
Bouasiba told Emirates Today: “I decided to officially run for a new electoral round to complement the achievements achieved during the current session, which were witnessed by the clubs and cycling teams, partners of success.”
He added: “We, as a board of directors, did not get our full opportunity during this session, due to the Corona pandemic that coincided with its beginning, and the competitions remained suspended for more than a year after that, so I want to continue what we have done.”
He continued: “In the beginning, we worked to expand the base of participation in local races, which was the beginning of drawing a new road map, as the federation organized during this period about 200 races for clubs and amateur teams, in addition to organizing the first track league, the first mountain bike league, and the first school league. And universities, and the first amateur tour, in addition to the supervision of international and community races held in the Emirates, and all of this did not exist before.”
He pointed out that during the current session, the Federation organized eight training courses for track and road referees and coaches, in addition to training courses under the umbrella of the National Olympic Committee and the International Cycling Federation.
Regarding the infrastructure, especially the Zayed Cycling Track, Bouasiba said: “The Council worked during this session to prepare the infrastructure, including the maintenance and restoration of the Zayed Cycling Track, and the purchase of three cars for national team training, in addition to the digital transformation of the federation through an integrated electronic system for registration and results, which is This constituted a qualitative leap in local racing, and the Board of Directors also succeeded in bringing in many sponsorships, whether material or in-kind, whose value was estimated at approximately the equivalent of three million and 500 thousand dirhams.”
He pointed out that the local races for juniors, youth and cubs are now witnessing the presence of more than 150 cyclists on the starting line, which is a large number. He also stressed that the presence of amateur teams with clubs has contributed greatly to the professionalism of the game and to increasing the rate of speeds.
The President of the Cycling Federation continued: “This period witnessed, for the first time in the history of national team camps, the establishment of 18 internal and external camps, including the Spain camp, which lasted for three months, and the Italy camp, which lasted two months.”
Regarding the achievements of the national teams during this period, Bouasiba said: “The national teams achieved more than 240 various medals in the Gulf and Arab championships for road, track, and mountain bike, and the Asian championships for road and track, in addition to the first gold medal in the Islamic Solidarity Tournament, and qualifying twice for the World Road Championships. The women’s team qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and obtained the General Excellence Shield from the Arab Cycling Federation in 2023, in addition to receiving the Fatima Bint Mubarak Award for the best female team and the best female coach.”
He stressed that for the first time, the UAE reached the seventh rank in the world through Mohammed Al Mutaiwee in an individual race against the clock, in addition to the fact that the team reached the 18th place in the international classification.
