The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Cycling Federation, Engineer Mansour Bu Oseiba, confirmed that there are serious negotiations with the international coach, Canadian Richard Walls, who has previously won 39 medals in world championships, in addition to participating in seven Olympic tournaments, indicating that if the coach is contracted Walls, this will be considered a qualitative leap for Emirates Cycling, which is looking for an international coach to prepare a generation of riders capable of reaching the international level.
The cycling team gathering, which was held over three days at Zayed Racecourse in Sharjah and concluded yesterday, witnessed the presence of international coach Richard Walls.
The cycling team is preparing to participate in the Arab Track Championship, which will be held in Egypt from December 25 to 28.
Mansour Bouasiba told Emirates Al-Youm: “International coach Walls came with an invitation to study the situation of the national team, get to know its heroes, and confirmed his happiness to be with the national team, but so far no announcement or approval has been made to coach the national team.”
He added: “The team has begun a new journey in preparation for foreign championships, and the next destination will be the Arab track championship in Egypt, and we are looking into participating in it with the largest number of riders, because it is an important championship and classified in the International Federation of Sport, and the team will be present in it with all its stars.”
For his part, the Canadian coach said: “I am happy to be in the Emirates. I came at the invitation of the Cycling Federation, to watch the team’s training on the ground and talk to the riders, before I make the final decision to train.”
