New Delhi. A total of 942 personnel of police, fire, home guards and civil security and correctional services have been awarded gallantry awards of various categories on the eve of Republic Day. These medals include 95 gallantry medals.
The Union Home Ministry said that the recipients of the Gallantry Award include police, fire, home guards and civil defense personnel and personnel working in correctional services. Among the gallantry award winners, 28 deployed in Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 28 in Jammu and Kashmir region, three in North East and 36 deployed in other areas are being honored for their gallant actions.
101 soldiers have been awarded President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM). Of these, 85 police personnel, five fire service personnel, seven civil defense and home guard services and four correctional service awards have been given. Apart from this, out of 746 Meritorious Service Medals (MSM) awarded to the personnel, 634 will be given to Police Service, 37 to Fire Service, 39 to Civil Defense and Home Guard Service and 36 to Correctional Service.

Gallantry Award is given for rare conspicuous act of gallantry and conspicuous act of gallantry, which includes protecting life or property, preventing crime or arresting criminals. In this, the risk is assessed according to the responsibilities and duties of the concerned officer. Soldiers who receive the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) are given Rs 6000 per month. Soldiers who receive Gallantry Medal (GM) are given Rs 6000 per month.
