BiharThe matter of frequent collapse of bridges in Bihar has now reached the Supreme Court. A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court. Regarding the continuous collapse of bridges in Bihar, the petitioner in the Supreme Court has cited the collapse of 12 bridges in the last two years.
By filing a petition in the Supreme Court, petitioner and advocate Brajesh Singh urged the Supreme Court to issue instructions to the Bihar government to conduct an audit. The petitioner said that the current issue of bridge collapse in Bihar needs to be considered urgently by the apex court. There is a dire need to conduct a high-level structural audit of all existing and under-construction bridges in the state.

The petition has mentioned the incidents of collapse and washing away of two big bridges and many small bridges under construction or immediately after construction in the last two years. The petition states that Bihar is a flood-prone state. Here 68,800 square kilometers or 73.6 percent of the land is affected by severe floods. The petition has cited the incidents of collapse and washing away of 12 bridges in the last two years.

The petitioner said that it is a matter of great concern that bridges are continuously collapsing in a flood-prone state like Bihar. Such incidents of collapse of bridges in Bihar are devastating. The lives of people are at stake on a large scale. Therefore, immediate intervention of the Supreme Court is required to save the lives of people. The PIL has highlighted the incidents of collapse of various bridges in Araria, Siwan, Madhubani and Kishanganj districts of Bihar, mostly bridges built on rivers.
