The first edition of the European Football Cup, which was held in France in 1960, witnessed the brilliance of the star of ice hockey legend Vlastimil Bubnik, who succeeded in becoming the only person in the history of the tournament to combine glory between two different sports, leading Czechoslovakia (formerly) to win the bronze medal in the European Football Cup. In addition to winning the title of best striker in the 1961 World Hockey Championship.
In the Czechoslovakian Ice Hockey League, he scored 121 goals in 127 international matches with his country’s national team. At the same time, he played nine seasons in the Czechoslovak First Football League, scoring 32 goals in 103 matches, which paved the way for him to join the first national football team and represent it in the European Championship. He excelled with him by scoring a goal during his country’s 2-0 victory over France, winning the bronze medal. Bubnik played 11 matches with Czechoslovakia, scoring four goals. Bubnik died in January 2015 at the age of 83.
