National highway development and new greenfield roads are being constructed under the leadership of the National Highway Authority in various states of the country including Kerala. On the other hand revolutionary changes are going on under the Indian Railways as well. After Vande Bharat, a semi-high speed train, Amrit Bharat Express, Vande Bharat Sleeper and Vande Metro are going to hit the tracks. Along with that, the bullet train project is also going to become a reality.
If we look at the figures of the last five years, this importance given to infrastructure development by the central government will be clear. The government has been increasing the allocation to the surface transport department and railways in every budget. In the interim budget presented last Thursday, 6.2 lakh crore was allocated to the defense ministry, 2.78 lakh crore to the road-highway sector and 2.55 lakh crore to the railways. 5.33 lakh crore has been earmarked by the Center for transport itself.
In 2020-21, the Center allocated Rs 0.91 lakh crore for surface transport and Rs 0.72 lakh crore for railways, while in 2021-22 it was Rs 1.18 lakh crore and Rs 1.1 lakh crore. In the 2022-23 budget, the allocation for surface transport has been increased to Rs 1.99 lakh crore and for railways to Rs 1.4 lakh crore. 2.7 lakh crore and 2.41 lakh crore in 2022-24. After this, the government raised the budget to 2.78 lakh crore and 2.55 lakh crore in the interim budget. On checking the figures, it is clear that there is a big increase in the allocation in the year 2023-24.
The country is giving equal consideration to rail development and road development. At present, under the leadership of both departments, world-class construction activities are taking place in the country. Apart from the development of existing national highways, expressways and new greenfield roads are also progressing under the leadership of the National Highways Authority.
Apart from high-speed rail, the Ministry of Railways is also working on maintenance and doubling of existing railway tracks. Rail development activities have also given importance to safety. Along with this, the construction of new trains including the bullet train.
