Buses will be operated by Darb Alwatan Company in North Saudi, North West Bus Company in North West and SAT Company in South. The journeys connect three major cities and 200 towns. State-of-the-art buses and services are arranged to reach 60 lakh passengers annually. Public buses ply on 76 routes.
Agreements have been made with three international companies to ply and operate state-of-the-art buses equipped with advanced technical features.
The bus transport service project was inaugurated by the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Salih Bin Nasser Al Jasser. The inaugural function organized by the Transport General Authority (TGA) was attended by prominent ministers, ambassadors and officials of government institutions and private sector companies.
Transport Minister Salih Bin Nasser, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transport General Authority, said that this project will create direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than 35,000 people. He also pointed out that the country will have a GDP (gross domestic product) of 320 crore riyals through this.
The plan is to provide better travel services to the people by strengthening private sector participation. The minister also mentioned the efforts of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in reforming the transport and logistics system of the country. He added that the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) formulated and implemented by Mohammed bin Salman is becoming a great asset for the country’s progress.
The bus services were started through three international consortia. This is the first foreign investment in the bus service sector. Darb Alwatan Company will provide bus service in North Saudi. Darb Alwatan will operate 124 services daily connecting more than 75 cities on 26 routes.
The contract is with North West Bus Company in the North West region. It operates 190 daily services connecting more than 70 cities on 23 routes. The third company, SAT, operates 178 daily services connecting more than 80 cities through 27 routes in the southern region.
