Defense has also supplied small drones to Ukraine. This was accidentally announced by the cabinet. These are unmanned aircraft that can be used for reconnaissance. The Netherlands has now delivered 130.4 million euros worth of military goods to Ukraine.
The report that drones have been delivered was ‘by mistake’ in the spring memorandum, Minister Kajsa Ollongren (Defence) wrote to the House of Representatives.
Defense will only announce which goods will be delivered in exceptional cases. For the drones, the ‘cabinet has ruled that disclosure is not appropriate’. Sniper rifles, armored vehicles, radar equipment and armored howitzers have previously been sent to Ukraine.
Defense has several types of unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance purposes. The PD-100 Black Hornet is only 10 centimeters long and can stay in the air for about 20 minutes. The almost 1 meter long Raven has been used extensively on missions in Afghanistan. The X-300 Integrator measuring 2 by 5 meters can be used both on land and at sea. This system replaced the ScanEagle, which was frequently deployed by the Defense organization in Mali and Somalia.
