He was immediately admitted to Makkah King Abdul Aziz Hospital. Then shifted to Maternity and Children Hospital. But could not save life. He died in the hospital. The child’s father works in Hail. He has come to Makkah to perform Umrah with his family. The body is kept in the mortuary of Maternity and Children Hospital. The Kerala Excise Mobile Intervention Unit (KEMU) will be inaugurated tomorrow (April 11) at 10 am at Amaravila, Thiruvananthapuram by Local Self-Government Excise Minister MB Rajesh. The minister will also perform the flag-off function of the patrolling units. Neyyattinkara MLA K Anselan will preside. The system is being implemented to prevent the smuggling of liquor, drugs and spirits through bypassing important check posts. 4 mobile patrol units working 24 hours a day will be prepared at a cost of 36 lakh rupees in the first phase. For this, 4 Mahindra Bolero Neo vehicles have been purchased. These will be deployed in the state border area of Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts. This is a project included in the 100 day program of the government.
At present, 41 check posts of the Excise Department are functioning in the border areas of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. In these 22 important check posts, CCTV system and centralized monitoring have been installed and the functioning of the check posts has been strengthened. Kemu is being implemented with the aim of preventing intoxicants from reaching Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts through the back roads and crossing the state borders other than through the check post. Chemu can be used to prevent drug trafficking through forest roads, by-passes, vehicles and head-to-head. The patrolling units will be concentrated on the interstates of the state borders in these districts.
Excise is doing a good job in enforcement. Last year, 18,592 Abkari cases, 6,116 NDPS cases and 86,114 Kotpa cases were excised. 21,684 accused were arrested in these cases. 4,166 liters of counterfeit liquor, 15,210 liters of non-state liquor, 16,067 liters of spirit, 5,385 liters of liquor, 54,644 liters of Indian-made foreign liquor, 11,984 liters of toddy, 3,602 kg of cannabis, 1,902 cannabis plants, 37,455 grams of hashish oil, 129.33 grams of brown sugar, 447.79 grams Heroin, 7,775.43 grams of MDMA, 42.78 grams of LSD stamp, 2,432.49 grams of methamphetamine and 604.27 grams of narcotic tablets were found in the husk.
