The struggling club Udinese in the Italian Football League announced on Monday the appointment of Fabio Cannavaro as coach until the end of the season.
Cannavaro, a former Juventus and Real Madrid defender, won the World Player of the Year award in 2006 after leading the Italian national team to win the World Cup in the same year.
Cannavaro takes over the job, succeeding former coach Gabriele Cioffi.
Udinese announced earlier today the dismissal of Coffi after the team fell, by only one goal difference, from the relegation zone after losing to struggling host Verona with an unanswered goal the day before yesterday, Saturday.
There are six rounds remaining until the end of the season, and Cannavaro’s task will be difficult to save Udinese, which has achieved only four victories throughout the season.
(50 years old) previously trained in China and Saudi Arabia.
