Police officers removed a man this afternoon who was hitchhiking in the middle of the A1 near Apeldoorn. The hitchhiker was on the A1 in the direction of Apeldoorn to Deventer on the viaduct, near the carpool location Apeldoorn-Beekbergen.
The man gestured for other cars to stop and held up his thumb as if he needed a ride. He did this not only on the hard shoulder, but also on one of the carriageways. This resulted in dangerous situations: a number of cars had to avoid him and slammed on the brakes.
‘Putted out of car’
The hitchhiker is eventually called to the side by a policeman on a motorcycle. He later told police that he had been kicked out of the car by his girlfriend.
The man was then taken to the station in a police car with a fine of 390 euros for walking on the highway.
