Out of 70.24 crore PAN card holders in the country, 57.25 crore people have linked their PAN number with Aadhaar. More than 12 crore people have not linked PAN and Aadhaar. Tax refund will not be allowed on the basis of invalid PAN card. Meanwhile, if the PAN card becomes invalid, it can be reactivated by linking it with Aadhaar by paying a fine of Rs 1,000.
How to check if PAN Card and Aadhaar Card are linked?
- Step 1 : Visit the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. The link is below. ttps://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
- Step 2 : Click on ‘Quick Links’ on the left side of the page. Then click on ‘Link Aadhaar Status’.
- Step 3 : Enter your 10-digit PAN card number and 12-digit Aadhaar card number on the page that appears.
- Step 4 : Then click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.
Your Aadhaar number will appear here if it is already linked to the PAN card. If not you take necessary steps to connect the two. Meanwhile, if your application for linking PAN number and Aadhaar number is awaiting validation from the Aadhaar Authority (UIDAI), you will have to check the linked status later.
Meanwhile, if your Aadhaar number is linked with someone else’s PAN number, or if your PAN number is linked with any other Aadhaar number, contact the JAO or Jurisdictional Assessing Officer as soon as possible. Application for dealing can be submitted there. Then you will get a message if the verification of linking the real cards is successful.
