New Delhi: The Congress party has accused the central government of refusing to supply rice to Karnataka as an act against the poor.
The Congress party made an election promise to provide free 5 kg of rice per person per month to families below the poverty line in Karnataka. Accordingly, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced that the Anna Bhagya scheme would be launched on July 1. Following this announcement, the Food Corporation of India has announced that it will stop supplying Raki in the foreign market.
Siddaramaiah strongly condemned the announcement of the Food Corporation of India. He criticized it as an act of revenge. Siddaramaiah also said that due to this decision of the Food Corporation of India, the Anna Bhagya project is likely to be postponed. In this case, pointing this out, the Congress party has severely criticized the central government.
Commenting in this regard on his Twitter page, Congress General Secretary Press Communications Jayaram Ramesh said, “This is the latest list of Narendra Modi’s anti-poor and vindictive politics:
May 13, 2023: The people of Karnataka completely rejected the Prime Minister and the BJP.
June 2, 2023: The Chief Minister of Karnataka announced that the Anna Bhagya scheme, which provides 10 kg of free food grains to poor families, will be implemented from July 1.
June 13, 2023: The central government issued a circular banning the sale of rice from the Food Corporation of India to states under the open market sale scheme. This is done to sabotage the Anna Bhagya scheme.
Karnataka was ready to pay Rs.3400 per 100 kg of rice to the Food Corporation of India. But the opportunity was denied. Meanwhile, the Food Corporation of India continues to sell 100 kg of rice for ethanol production and petrol blending at Rs 2,000. Food safety should be paramount at all times,” he said.
