Sports Desk. New Zealand has announced the team for the Champions Trophy to be held next month. New Zealand announced its 15-man squad on Sunday morning. Left arm spinner Mitchell Santner will captain the team. Former captain and veteran batsman Kane Williamson has also got a place in the team.
Williamson has returned to the ODI team after 14 months. He played his last ODI match for his country (New Zealand) in the semi-final of ODI World Cup-2023 which was held in November. Williamson had decided to keep himself out of the central contract of his cricket board. He was playing only test matches during this period.
New Zealand has failed on most occasions in ICC events. This time he will try to win the Champions Trophy title which is returning after seven years. His batting is strong from ODI point of view and with the arrival of Williamson, it has got more strength. The New Zealand team has batsmen like Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra who have proved themselves in a short time. Daryl Mitchell and Williamson will work to provide depth to the team.
The team’s bowling has a name like Lockie Ferguson. Apart from him, the team has high expectations from Nathan Smith. The team will have high expectations from Mitchell Bracewell and Santner. Considering the pitches of Pakistan and UAE, the role of both of them is important. Glenn Phillips’ spin can also prove to be very useful for the team.
