Chennai: According to the All India Chess Association, 100 countries have so far registered to participate in the Chennai Chess Olympiad.
The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Mamallapuram next to Chennai from July 28 to August 10. As the host nation, India will have two teams each in the Open and Women’s divisions. Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand from Tamil Nadu has been appointed as the advisor to the Indian team. Training for the Indian team is taking place in Chennai.
So far, players from 100 countries have registered to take part in the tournament. According to the All India Chess Association, 187 countries out of a total of 100 have so far registered 101 Open teams and 86 women’s teams.
