Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) inaugurated a 125 feet tall statue of Dr. Ambedkar, the founder of the Indian Constitution, on his 132nd birth anniversary.
This bronze statue, the tallest in the country, has been installed on the banks of Hyderabad’s famous Hussain Sagar Lake, near the headquarters. 360 tonnes of stainless steel and 114 tonnes of bronze have been used for this gigantic statue which has been made at a cost of Rs.146.50 crores.
At the grand unveiling of the Ambedkar statue, flowers were showered on the statue from a helicopter as a tribute to Ambedkar. Ambedkar’s grandson Prakash Ambedkar was invited as the special guest on the occasion.
More than 35,000 people from 119 assembly constituencies are expected to attend the grand function. More than 750 buses were operated by the State Transport Corporation for the convenience of the public to participate in the ceremony. Food was arranged for the people coming to participate in the function, one lakh sweet packets, 1.50 lakh buttermilk and same amount of water packets were arranged.
Earlier, Chief Minister K. Chandra Sekar Rao had felicitated 98-year-old sculptor Ram Vanchi Sudhar, who worked hard to make this gigantic statue. Regarding the statue, K said, “This tallest statue of Ambedkar in India, located near the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial and the State Assembly building, is a driving force for the people and an inspiration for the state administration every day.” It is noteworthy that Chandra Sekara Rao had informed.
