All Chinese astronauts who have gone into space so far belong to the People’s Liberation Army. Mission Commander Jing Haipeng is going into space for the fourth time. It is sending Gui, the first civilian astronaut, along with engineer Zhuyangju. Haichao, a professor at Beihang University, has achieved this feat.
In this context, Lin Zhiqiang, Deputy Director of China Manned Space Agency said… “China has recently launched a manned lunar exploration program. Our goal is to send a man to the moon by 2030 and carry out research and experiments related to them there,” he said.
Tiangong is a key project in China’s space mission. It has played a role in being the third country to send humans into orbit along with missions like landing and landing robotic rovers on Mars and the Moon. Beijing said the mission was the first to the Tiangong space station after entering the ‘application and development’ phase.
After entering orbit, Shenzhou-16 rendezvoused with three colleagues who had returned to space via Shenzhou-15 after a six-month stay to enter the Tianhe core module of the space station. The Shenzhou-16 mission will conduct in-orbit experiments, study new quantum phenomena, high-precision space-time-frequency systems, verification of general relativity, and the origins of life.
Drinking water, clothing, food and propellants were resupplied to the space station this month for Shenzhou-16. “It’s important to have a deep experience in human spaceflight. It’s not always possible to reach new and exciting milestones,” said Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. China will send Shenzhou-17 in October next year.
