The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said on Saturday that despite the upward trend of EG5 cases, the overall rate of spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in China remains at a low level.
The center indicated that the proportion of cases associated with the “EG.5” variant in all cases of the disease increased from 0.6 percent last April to 71.6 percent at present, recording that it is the dominant variant in most provinces of the country.
The center stated that there is a high probability that this trend will continue for a period of time, pointing out, on the other hand, that the pressure exerted by the current cases of infection on health care systems at the local level is relatively low, and it is unlikely that large-scale transmission will occur in the short term.
