“Chiquitingo”, “fingidaza” And Other Words That Became Popular Thanks To “Al Fondo Hay Lugar”

The countdown has begun for the return of There is room in the background! The TV series that revolutionized Peruvian homes in 2009 finally returns to the small screen this June 22. During the eight years that it was on the air, the production managed to mark its audience with the different terms that its characters used, such as “kiddy” or “backward gringo.”

Characters like ‘Charito’, Joel Gonzales and Reina Pachas were the ones who mentioned these funny words to refer to their companions or to describe an action. The words pleased the public so much that they surpassed the screens and several included them in their vocabulary. As a reminder, we have compiled the most popular ones below.

“Chiquitingo”

Joel Gonzales (Erick Elera), used this term with his eternal lover Fernanda de las Casas (Nataniel Sánchez) when he wanted to be intimate. With the passing of the seasons, more characters in the series adopted the eloquent word.

“Pretend”

Reina Pachas (Tatiana Astengo), was inspired by ‘Charito’ (Mónica Sánchez) to create the word “fake”, which had a derogatory connotation when referring to the fact that Grace Gonzales’ mother was a hypocrite. However, with the passing of time and living in the same house, both began to clean up rough edges.

“Bananazo”

Dedicated to the infatuated Raúl Del Prado (Christian Thorsen), who was ‘arrowed’ for several seasons of ‘Charito’. They both belonged to two different classes. For this reason, the Gonzales referred to Raúl as ‘Platanazo’ when pointing to him as someone who has money and combining it as an insult. And it is that the businessman, in fiction, was the owner of the most important production company in Peru.

“Oh my!”

Isabella Maldini (Karina Calmet) used this phrase almost daily in each of the eight seasons of “Al fondo hay lugar”. This expression was used whenever she was very excited or upset. It is the short version of “Oh, my god” (Oh, my God); however, what made this term special was the way she pronounced it, as she mostly did it screaming.

“Monsefuana”

Dedicated to Monserrat (Melania Urbina), who worked for Los Maldini together with Peter (Adolfo Chuiman). Generally, several characters called her that in reference to the word “monse”, since he always had bad luck and things did not turn out the way he wanted.

“Requecheche”

The witty Joel Gonzales was the creator of this peculiar phrase that referred to when he tasted some food that seemed extremely tasty to him.

“I shut up because I am a lackey”

Peter McKay (Adolfo Chuiman) is one of the most faithful workers in the Maldini household, especially Mrs. Francesca (Yvonne Frayssinet), whom he secretly loves. As a butler, he was limited to giving his opinion on family matters and therefore he mentioned the popular phrase.

“Gringo backwards”

In short, one of the phrases that marked “In the background there is a place” was “backward gringo”, to the point of creating several video clips starring Joel (Erick Elera) that already exceed one million views on YouTube. The term was dedicated to Mike Miller, who was Fernanda de las Casas’s boyfriend in the second season, when Joel still couldn’t win her over.

“Bassuuuuuu!”

Reina Pachas is one of the characters who had an explosive character and frequently argued with her husband Lucho Gonzales. Every time Father ‘Grace’ did something “wrong” or had suspicious attitudes of infidelity, the housewife yelled the word “trash” at him with a peculiar tone.

“Ala pitri mitri”

The inseparable friends, ‘Pepe’ (David Almandoz) and ‘Tito’ (László Kovács), used this term every time they wanted to express very good news and couldn’t find the words.

“Take down the party”

Once again, Reina Pachas used these words to refer to someone who was boring, who did not go along with her or did not meet her demands; they were generally addressed to Lucho Gonzales.

This phrase shone in several chapters of “There is room in the background” and alluded to a cowardly person with a weak character. Reina Pachas was constantly dedicated by Lucho Gonzales.

“Choo, choo, choo out of here!”

‘Tere’ (Magdyel Ugaz) used this phrase every time someone bothered her and wanted her to get out of her sight. What she attracted attention and caused grace was the way she said it, because she made extravagant gestures associated with her way of being.
