San Francisco. Elon Musk-led Tesla has got a clean chit from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in a 2021 crash involving the Tesla Model S Autopilot system. The US Transportation Agency determined that the probable cause of the electric vehicle crash was excessive speed and the driver losing control of the car.
The safety board said in the report, the accident was caused by the driver being under the influence of alcohol. Due to this the car hit the tree and crashed. After which it caught fire.
The NTSB, which is investigating, said Autopilot was not in use at the time of the accident. The system was not programmed.
Meanwhile, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating self-driving claims made by Tesla CEO Musk.
The SEC probe is to determine whether the electric carmaker violated rules in promoting its full-self-driving (FSD) and autopilot software.
Last September, the electric car maker was sued alleging that the company and its CEO were misleadingly marketing Autopilot and full self-driving software.
The controversial Autopilot Advanced Driver Assistants system has come under scrutiny.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) upgraded its investigation from a preliminary evaluation to an engineering analysis. It asked Tesla to answer questions about its cabin cameras as part of an investigation into 830,000 vehicles including Autopilot.(IANS)
