Officials have estimated that Rs 134 crore is needed for incentives for 2199 gram panchayats across the state. That was soon followed by the release of government funds. 5 lakhs for panchayats with a population of up to 2 thousand in Ekagrivas and Rs. 10 lakhs, Rs. 15 lakhs between 5,000 and 10,000 and Rs. 20 lakhs for panchayats with a population of more than 10,000.
It is learned that the panchayat elections were held in January and February this year. In this context, the AP government has announced incentives for panchayats to be annexed. The consensus was that these would be allocated on the basis of the village population. Almost 10 months after the election, the funds were not released. Opposition parties also criticized this. Now the total funds have been released.
