The Annadmk party general council meeting was in turmoil. Activists attacked party co-ordinator and former deputy chief minister Panniru Selvam with water bottles. Slogans were raised against him. As he was about to leave the stage, water bottles were thrown at him. Bottles of water fell on personal security guards who lined up to protect the former CM from the attack. He then walked out of the meeting. The video is currently going viral on social media. Amidst this confusion 23 resolutions proposed by the General Council were rejected. The party needs to try first to bring back a single leadership system. The party general council will meet again on July 11 to discuss the issue. The meeting decided to hold an election of a new president on the same day. Party sources, on the other hand, say OPS support in the party has waned. Of the 75 district secretaries, 66 supported the EPS, while only nine were in favor of the OPS. Of the 2,500 General Council members, only 20 per cent support the OPS. The focus is on the crucial General Council meeting on July 11. However, one thing happened in favor of Panneer Selva. The Madras High Court has directed that only the 23 resolutions can be decided by the AIADMK General Council and only other issues can be discussed. At the request of General Council member Shanmugam, the court heard arguments from both sides. This eliminates the possibility of an all-member decision on a single leadership.
