The matter came to light late and the concerned authorities have defended it. Even the bathroom was not allowed to be used. The student alleged that he was forced to do homework.
Police have arrested the accused Venkatesh R Sattaru (35), 23-year-old Sravana Verma Penumechcha, cousin of the Indian student, and 27-year-old Nikhil Verma Penmatsa. They have been charged with crimes including human trafficking, kidnapping and assault.
In April, the student was taken to Sattaru’s house. They were forced to do housework.
Police said the student is safe and is being treated at the hospital for multiple fractures. The accused locked the student in the basement for three months. The police said that they were forced to sleep on the floor without giving them access to the bathroom.
“It is completely inhumane and senseless for one human being to treat another human being in this way,” officials said.
The Indian student thought the trio would help him with his student visa. However, the accused have destroyed the student’s passport. Also the student was always under surveillance. The report said that he was given very little food.
Police said that the accused allowed the student to call his mother home only in his presence. They did not allow him to make any video calls.
The police, who informed the conference, were not allowed to enter the house initially. A student came running from the basement. He was shaking with fear. There were many injury marks on the body. Bones were broken. We rescued him and admitted him to the hospital. He said that he is receiving treatment.
