Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that he will contest the assembly elections only if Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is reinstated.
In this regard, he has given an interview to a news agency and said, “I will not contest the Legislative Assembly elections until Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is re-implemented. This decision of mine may sound silly. But, for me, it’s emotional. I will not contest the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections unless Article 370 is reinstated.
Whenever I was sworn in as a member of the Legislative Assembly earlier, I was sworn in under both the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the Constitution of India. I have sworn in to have both the Jammu and Kashmir flag and the Indian national flag. In such a non-existent environment I cannot register as a member of the Legislative Assembly. At the same time, I don’t know whether I will contest in the parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters in Poonch before this, Mehbooba Mufti said, “What can I say about when the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held? The Election Commission has already announced that it is ready to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir. But it is worth noting that the Election Commission will conduct the elections only if the conditions are favorable for the BJP.
