Pune: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s comments on women’s clothing have sparked controversy. Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal has urged Ramdev to apologize to all the women in the country for making the disgusting comment.
An event took place in Maharashtra last Friday. Amrutha Fadnavis, wife of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, graced the occasion. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son Srikanth Shinde was also present.
Speaking then Ramdev said, “All the women who have come to the meeting are looking happy. May all your good fortune come to you. Those who came wearing sarees have got a chance to sit in the first row. Some of you have come in salwar. Some of you have brought sarees from home and are still in salwar because you don’t have time to change. Even if you are wearing a saree, you are beautiful. Salwar is like Amruta. She is beautiful even when she is wearing it. No, she is beautiful even when she is not wearing anything like me.” The video also shows the women in the crowd looking at each other after listening to his speech. Apart from this, in the video, Ramdev said, “We dress for social norms. We go around without any clothes till the age of 10. It’s the kids these days who dress in five layers.”
Regarding this, Delhi Women’s Commission President Swati Maliwal said, “Swami Ramdev’s insulting of women in front of the deputy chief minister’s wife is condemnable. It seems that all the women who see the video are hurt by his comment. He should apologize to all the women of the country.”
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra said, “I understand why Patanjali Baba ran from Delhi Ramlila Maidan wearing women’s clothes. He said he prefers sarees and salwars. He is visually impaired, so his comments are like this.”
