At the end of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly (GA), a stir began among the Western press after the speech of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. This was reported on September 24 by Izvestia correspondent Nikolai Ivanov.
“High Level Week is coming to an end. Here is the climax. Sergey Lavrov speaking. There is a stir among the Western press. <...> The press conference of Minister Lavrov always causes a stir at the General Assembly. But this time it is especially noticeable. Don’t push through here. American journalists really want to talk directly with the head of the Foreign Ministry, ”Ivanov shares the events.
According to the correspondent, the Americans’ questions are consistently provocative. During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Lavrov spoke unambiguously, and this caused an active reaction.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that official Russophobia has acquired unprecedented proportions in the West, because, according to the minister, Western countries openly declare their intention to destroy Russia for its independence.
At the same time, according to Lavrov, the West does not act independently, but through Kyiv.
“For the Anglo-Saxons, who completely subjugated Europe, Ukraine is just a consumable in the fight against Russia. NATO has declared our country a direct threat on the path to total US dominance, and has identified China as a long-term strategic challenge,” the minister said.
At a press conference following the results of participation in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Lavrov added that Western countries are “not capable of negotiating” because of their selfishness and lack of motivation to establish a dialogue. Instead, according to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, they continue to “demonize Russia.”
Also at a press conference, the Russian Foreign Minister noted that the West threw a tantrum because of the ongoing referendums in the republics of Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Despite the fact that the people living there are fulfilling the recommendation given in August 2021 by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
The special operation to defend Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military, in connection with which the authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics turned to Moscow for help.
