Toda: The Geological Survey of India will investigate cracks in 22 houses in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda area, officials said on Saturday.
Similar to what happened in Joshimath area of Uttarakhand, there are cracks in houses in Doda area of Jammu and Kashmir. So far 22 buildings have been affected by this crack. 19 families have been evacuated from the area. Aadhar Amin Sarkar, Deputy Collector of Dadri area, said yesterday, “There was a crack in a house in Toda district in December. Until yesterday, six buildings had cracks and now the damage has started to increase. Cracks have appeared in many buildings. Due to this, the area has become buried.”
In this situation today (Saturday) in an interview given by the Deputy Collector, “The situation in Doda area is being continuously monitored by the Deputy Commissioner and senior officials. The situation is under control. The government has sent a team of Indian Geological experts to survey the affected area. After surveying the affected area, they will submit their reports to the government. .People have been evacuated from the affected area,” he said.
Earlier, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, “I am in contact with Doda Joint Commissioner Vishvesh Mahajan to know the details. Relief camps have been arranged for people affected by cracks in their houses. Meanwhile, a geological survey team is conducting a survey in the affected area. Will investigate. Short-term and long-term measures will be taken as per the need,” he said on his Twitter page.
They said that not only illegal constructions for Joshimath town crack but also because of National Thermal Power Corporation’s Thabovan Vishnugat hydropower project is the reason why this area is facing this situation. Experts have said that the huge hydropower project is also a reason for this. As in Joshimath, another Himalayan town, buildings have also suffered cracks as parts of the land buried, local authorities said.
