For Krzysztof Piątek, according to many experts, the transfer to Turkey was the last resort for his increasingly low career prospects. Only a vague memory remains of the goal-scoring sniper from AC Milan. The Polish representative has mostly been disappointing in recent seasons. It started with an unsuccessful adventure in Herta Berlin. The German club loaned him to Fiorentina and Salernitana, but Piątek could not find his form in any of the Italian clubs.
In July, the Berlin club transferred him without regret to the Turkish Basaksehir Istanbul. The 28-year-old was the best-paid player in Herta. His salary was a big burden for the club, which was struggling with many problems. The management made a firm decision – Krzysztof Piątek had to get rid of him at all costs.
The beginnings in Turkey were not the easiest. Piątek couldn’t find his way in the new team, and when he had a chance to score a goal, he failed. Despite this, coach Cagdas Atan consistently relied on him. The Polish international did not score any goals in his first nine appearances for Basaksehirand journalists were already starting to wonder whether he would ever be able to return to regular shooting.
A great distinction for Krzysztof Piątek
The breakthrough came in the competition with Ankaragucu. Basaksehir drew 3-3, but Piątek scored two goals and finally had a successful performance. It was obvious that a huge stone had fallen from his heart. It all went downhill from there. In the next three matches, “Pistolero” scored twiceand fans began to follow his actions with enthusiasm.
In December, Krzysztof Piątek recorded a total of three goals and added an assist, making it another successful month in the Turkish club. This was appreciated by Basaksehir fans. The Pole won the vote for the best player of the monthand in his hand was a unique statuette.
I would like to thank my teammates from the field and the fans for their support
