At the Islamic Cultural Center in Sisak, the Turkish Embassy in Croatia organized a festive iftar for the participants of the Mektep Quran Evening, reports Anadolija.
At the solemn iftar in the premises of the Islamic Cultural Center “Recep Tayyip Erdogan” in Sisak, organized by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Yavuz Selim Kiran with the participation of the chief imam of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Sisak Alema ef Crnić, the young participants of the Mektepske Koran evening who arrived from Zagreb, Rijeka, Umag, Pula and Zadar, as well as the main imams from the aforementioned cities.
During the iftar, Turkish ambassador Kiran spoke to the gathered reciters of the Qur’an, their friends and parents.
“The Sisak ‘Recep Tayyip Erdogan’ Islamic cultural center and mosque, where we are now, was opened by our president, with the participation of high-ranking officials, last year. Since its opening, this center has been visited and followed with interest not only by Muslims, but also by members of other religions. Our center has become another symbol of the culture of love, respect, tolerance and coexistence in Croatia, where Muslims live in peace. At a time when xenophobia and anti-Islamism are on the rise in Europe, the atmosphere of equality in Croatia gives us hope,” said Kiran.
He especially thanked everyone who, with various contributions, helped repair the damage caused by the earthquakes in Turkiye.
“The contributions not only of the Muslims of Sisak, but also of the entire Islamic community in Croatia, regardless of whether they were small or large, were salve on the wounds of the earthquake victims in our country and made us happy,” the ambassador said.
The chief imam of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Sisak, Alem ef Crnić, emphasized in his speech that the Islamic Cultural Center in Sisak “improves and strengthens our feelings and love for the friendly and brotherly people of Turkey, who contributed to the Muslims of Sisak having the most beautiful Ramadan in their lives”.
After the festive iftar, 17 participants of the Mektep evening from all over Croatia started studying the Quran.
