The death of prominent businessman Cyrus Mistry in a road accident shocked the entire nation. The forensic team investigating the accident revealed key details. It concluded that the accident was due to ‘faulty design’ of the bridge. It said that the deaths occurred because the rear seat occupants were not wearing seat belts. The seven-member team revealed that the Mercedes-Benz SUV’s safety standards did their job properly when the accident occurred. Airbags are said to have opened. It is noteworthy that the road narrowed from 3 lanes to two lanes within meters of the accident site.
Meanwhile, a team of experts jointly appointed by the Maharashtra Police and the State Transport Department said that over-speeding was the cause of the accident. Software simulations and other techniques are used to determine the exact speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident, it said. In this context, the report of the forensic team has gained importance.
