Sports Desk. D Gukesh has created a new record in the world of chess. Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh became the youngest world champion by defeating Ding Liren in the deciding 14th game of the World Chess Championship in Singapore on Thursday, December 12. At the age of 18, Gukesh became the second Indian player after Vishwanathan Anand to become world champion in chess.
On this, PM Modi congratulated for the victory. Gukesh (D Gukesh) and Ding were tied with 6.5 points each in the last game of the match on Thursday. 14th game, in which Ding was playing with white pieces and Gukesh was playing with black pieces. The match was heading towards a draw. Then in the 53rd move of the match, Ding made a mistake and Gukesh turned the tables. Gukesh (D Gukesh) took advantage of Liren’s mistake and did wonders and defeated last year’s world champion.
Ding wanted to take the match to tiebreaker, but in the end Gukesh (D Gukesh) found a way to win. Gukesh became the 18th world champion and the youngest world champion of the World Chess Championship. Gukesh defeated Ding Liren of China 7.5-6.5 in the 14th game. Earlier the 13th game was a draw. Gukesh won the 3rd, 11th and 14th games. Whereas Liren won the first and 12th games. All remaining games were draws.
For winning the title, Gukesh (D Gukesh) got 13 lakh dollars i.e. Rs 11.03 crore out of the prize money of 25 lakh dollars (Rs 21 crore). After the win, a big smile could be seen on the face of the reticent teenager Gukesh as he raised his arms in celebration. Gukesh became the youngest player to challenge for the world title after winning the Candidates Tournament earlier this year.
