Digital Desk, Dharamshala. Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Wednesday wrote to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to congratulate him on his party’s victory in national elections and lauded the leadership shown by him amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate wrote, “I appreciate the leadership you have shown to address challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected so many people around the world.” I have long admired Canada’s policy of taking compassionate action to welcome vulnerable people from troubled parts of the world on humanitarian grounds.
“As an honorary Canadian citizen, I am proud of such generous, humanitarian steps,” Lama said. The spiritual leader said, “It has been a privilege to visit Canada in the last few years. I have been deeply touched by the friendship and affection shown to me by my Canadian brothers and sisters. On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude for this.
Canada has warmly welcomed Tibetan refugees since your late father’s prime ministership. “As a whole, I think Tibetans are making a positive contribution to Canada’s multicultural society,” he said.
